SCENES

INTRODUCTION
Two proper people enter, complaining about the frivolity and silliness of Purim celebrations.  Rock and Roll interrupt them, introducing the theme of rock and roll.

INTRODUCTION OF THE KING
The King is the personae of the other King – Elvis. 
Hound Dog – King

VASHTI COMMITS THE CARDINAL SIN
The King throws a party and summons Vashti.  She appears, annoyed with the King, and steps on his blue suede shoes.  He is appalled. NOBODY steps on his blue suede shoes.  Vashti is banished.

THE KING IS DESPONDENT
The King is filled with heartache.

He decides to have a contest to find a new queen

MORDECAI TALKS TO ESTHER
Mordecai explains to Esther, who is somewhat of an air head, that she must enter the contest but that she shouldn’t tell anyone she is Jewish. 

MORDECAI HEARS IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
A group, disguised as grapes, are plotting to kill the king.  Mordecai overhears the plan

THE CONTEST
The King surveys a group of women.  Chooses Esther

INTRODUCTION OF HAMAN
Haman is introduced as the Big Booper.  He corrects them—it’s Bopper.
Chantilly Lace – Haman

EVERYONE MUST BOW TO HAMAN
Haman decrees that everyone must bow.  Mordecai refuses
Blue Suede Shoes – Mordecai
Anyone who uses anything that is a reference to blue suede shoes is in trouble with the king.  Haman goes to the king to tell him that someone is using the Blue Suede Shoes melody.  He volunteers to get rid of this person and all who are like him.

HAMAN CHOOSES A DATE
All Shook Up – Haman

MORDECAI IN MOURNING
When Mordecai helps about Haman’s plan, he dons sackcloth and ashes.

MORDECAI TALKS TO ESTHER
At first Esther refuses.  Then she realizes she is at risk.  Finally she agrees, but is concerned about what to wear.  Her attendants have the solution.
Yellow Polka Dot Bikini – Maids and Esther
She goes to the King who is enamored with her.  She invites him to a party.

THE PARTY
A good time is had by all.
At the Hop – Chorus

KING CAN’T SLEEP
When he can’t sleep, the daily record is read to him.  He hears about the grapes who were plotting to kill him.  How to honor the person who revealed the plot.  Haman enters and suggests the person should he dressed in the king’s best leather jacket and driven around on the king’s Harley. Haman is told to do this for Mordecai

THE SECOND PARTY
Esther reveals Haman’s plot to kill her and all Jews.
Smoke Gets in your Eyes – Esther
Haman runs over to King to plead for mercy and steps on his shoes.  He is led off by guards.
